August Alsina's return to the game has arrived.

After teasing his return a few days ago, August Alsina has once again made his presence felt. His latest single "Wouldn't Leave" treads ground familiar to Ye fans, who likely recall Kanye West's emotionally reflective track. Naturally, Alsina covers different ground altogether, though the emotional weight remains present. Bringing forth a quick-spoken melodic delivery, Alsina paints the picture of a fractured relationship, imbuing his words with a notable sincerity. "No one could see the future how we started off," he sings, "they don't see how many times we tried to call it off."

While the instrumental borrows from its namesake, there are certainly enough distinguishing elements; for one, the percussion has changed from a pulsating digital drumline to a relaxed organic rhythm. Borrowing from PND's original melody, Alsina reinvents the chorus with a sense of intimacy Yeezy lacks, likely due to his overt appreciation for all things porn.

It's nice to see August Alsina back in the fold, and we hope this marks a steady stream of music from the young talent.

Quotable Lyrics

Leave me hanging after what we started
I know that you wouldn't hurt me,
Know that you would rather die than see me broken hearted
Solo taking losses
We knew to make it worth it there would be a cost
