Yes, ‘tis better to give than to receive.
As he celebrates his 20th birthday, Jaden Smith decided to gift the world with his promised SYRE: The Electric Album. The new outing arrives in five tracks total and is currently only available by way of Instagram through the app’s newly-minted IGTV feature. While the effort was preceded by Smith’s “GHOST” collaboration with Christian Rich, the track does not appear in the project as it was expected to.
While on Jaden’s actual Instagram feed, each new track is accompanied by a piece of an overarching visual presentation that features Jaden and an appearance from his girlfriend and actress Odessa Adlon, the full-length audio of each clip in IGTV is accompanied by a visual a floating yellow amplifier.
As he indicated in teases of the project, the new effort is not a rap album in the traditional sense, with Jaden actually singing on some of the tracks. In a recent interview with Fader, the young artist revealed that Jay-Z played a role the final format that he decided to bestow upon us.
“I decided to talk to Hov and he told me he thought the album was cool and he said as I got older I would space out my verses more and I'd say more with less,” he told the publication. “That's the total inspiration behind my next album.”
