Over the weekend, the tension between Azealia Banks & Cardi B seemed to boil into full blown hostility, at least on one side. While Banks previously sent a few shots in Cardi's direction, she doubled down her stance during an extensive Breakfast Club interview. During the conversation, Banks reiterated that Cardi embodied "this caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with.” The fightin' words prompted a response from Cardi herself, who went on to delete her Instagram page shortly thereafter. While Banks ultimately did away with her own Twitter page, she did let off a final exeunt, complete with a verbal assault worthy of the "212" days.
The Shade Room captured Banks' scathing response, beginning by pointing out Cardi's alleged hypocrisy. "So because I point out that you get away with being the typical caricature of a black woman that society says is wrong...and you respond by calling me unattractive and bringing up skin bleaching to basically make fun of me for not being light skinned?" She goes on, dubbing "Carbi" a "bird brain" and a "hood booger," as well as targeting Cardi's vernacular and overall ability to engage in cultural discourse.
"I ALSO come from the hood," says Banks. "The hood is a beautiful place full of loads of creative, smart, and talented people. You're illiterate because you are lazy, not because you are from the hood." She gets even more personal, calling out Offset's public infidelity and calling her a "real life episode of Maury." She ends the attack by pointing out that Cardi's success is further proof that record labels and "suits" are using her as a "weapon against black women's consciousness and culture."
The plot thickens.
