Back in August, Martin Lawrence, co-star of the massively successful Bad Boys series alongside Will Smith, revealed that another sequel may never materialize. The film has seen an abundance of directors raise interest in helming the project, only to drop out shortly afterwards. Lawrence and Smith's busy schedules also played a part in prolonging the film from being produced.
However, fans of the franchise rejoice, as there have now been some serious talks with studio executives at Sony to revive the buddy cop comedy for a third instalment.
Deadline reports that Sony is in talks with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct Bad Boys For Life, which will bring Lawrence and Smith back together as Miami detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. The film will be produced by Hollywood heavyweight Jerry Bruckheimer, and is slated to start filming this August, based off a screenplay by Chris Bremner.
This project has apparently been a top priority for Sony, as the two preceding films experienced international acclaim, all while raking in a boatload of cash at the box office.
Arbi and Fallah are best known for their hit FX series Snowfall, and the Moroccan duo are also slated to direct the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Gabrielle Union will reprise her role in a Bad Boys spin-off series on NBC, as her character leaves the DEA to assume a new position with the LAPD.
