It's a good time to be a hip-hop fan. Not only is Kanye West in the middle of an album-releasing spree, but Lil Wayne is officially free from his Cash Money contract. While we're left wondering what his next move should be, the game has united around the legendary rapper to show their appreciation for his legacy. The rallying point in question is Weezy's iconic Tha Carter III, which helped solidify his position as a critical and commercial juggernaut. As it happens, the third chapter of his saga will be celebrating its tenth anniversary on Sunday; seeing as the milestone falls on the day of rest, it's no wonder that rappers have already started paying respects.
To commemorate the occasion, Spotify has brought together several prominent rappers to celebrate Weezy's album. Several notable names include Quavo, Wiz Khalifa, Young M.A., Rich The Kid, French Montana, Offset, Takeoff, T-Pain, Lil Uzi Vert, Trippie Redd, Lil Yachty and many more. Sharing their own connection with the project, each participant put forth a baby picture for homage.
“When I heard Tha Carter III, I knew Wayne was the greatest rapper alive," writes Uzi. "Wayne is one of the most influential rappers and Tha Carter III changed the game," reflects Wiz. "Him and Hot Boys inspired me in many ways. Hot Boys influenced us to be a group," writes Quavo. The list goes on. Peep the collection here, courtesy of Spotify's Rap Caviar.
