Marvel Studios has digitally de-aged several of their stars on screen before. Robert Downey Jr. was de-aged in Civil War to show a flashback scene with his parents. Lawrence Fishburne, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Douglas were de-aged in the latest Ant-Man and The Wasp. Kurt Russell was also de-aged in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Now, Slash Films is reporting that Samuel L. Jackson will be treated to the same digital process.
Captain Marvel drops next year, and she is by far the most powerful hero we've seen on screen in the Marvel Universe. Her raw power is unbelievable, and there is little doubt that she will be the one to defeat Thanos. Why else would Samuel L. Jackson's Nicky Fury call for her help moments before disintegrating in Avengers: Infinity War? The Captain Marvel film will take place in the 90's, and will show just how Fury met the powerful hero in the first place. Since the film takes places 25 years in the past, Marvel will be digitally de-aging him for the whole film. Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige confirmed to Slash Films that both Jackson and Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson will get the computerized fountain of youth treatment. "I think having the option is pretty amazing," Feige says of the digital de-aging process. "I think having the technology and even without spoiling anything, Sam Jackson is shooting a movie for us right now that takes, where he’s entirely 25 years younger the whole movie [Captain Marvel]. And Coulson. So that’ll be the first one where it’s a character for the whole movie, as opposed to a glimpse at a certain period of time. It’s the whole movie."
