Many of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's early followers believe his potential has flatlined, but that's symptomatic of two things: over-consumption of his music and secondly, the promise he showed (continues to show) and the expectations that evolved out of that promise quite naturally. It's too early to predict if A Boogie misjudged the first big step. He went from claiming the Highbridge projects as his own to building a regional powerhouse. The biggest gamble was to laud himself an International Artist, thus opening himself to criticism. But in his defense, no one's going to back you down unless you bet on yourself first. His new EP B4 #HOODIESZN is highly indicative of that.
"Retaliation" is a deeply personal record even when it veers off course. Boogie doesn't have to be scene specific in order to spell out this blameless game that occurs in his home environment. The very nature of the threat describes in "Retaliation" is nondescript, but in a manner that guards his privacy. Check out "Retaliation" and comment below.
Quotable Lyrics:
Couple n****s I grew up with don't fuck with me no more
It's probably because of money
You switchin' your crew up, you ain't livin' comfortable n****
You know you a fuckin' dummy
I'm rollin' that glue up and it's gettin' stuck to my fingers
Can somebody roll it for me?
