Vince Carter extended his career another year, opting to join the rebuilding Atlanta Hawks for the upcoming NBA season. That alone disqualifies him from being mislabeled a "Ring Chaser" by media and fans. Unlike so and so, Vince Carter accepted his demotion to the bench with humility, a decision that extended his NBA career by five or so years.
In a televised segment for ESPN's The Jump, Vince Carter admitted he'd be willing to accept a bit-player role so long as it warranted him playing at the NBA level. "I still want to play the game. Whatever minutes are there, I want them," concluded Carter.
When asked if he'd consider joining a juggernaut like the Golden State Warriors, Carter answered that he would do so willingly, but the offer never came to pass. "I'm open for it. I want to win. I want to play and I want to do somewhat what Kevin Durant did. I want to do for my team. I want to go out there and play and provide and show that I can still play this game," responded Carter on the topic of joining an established powerhouse.
The interviewer pressed him for better sound bites and Carter without fawning his pride. The 41 year-old is perceived very differently at this juncture in his career, a country mile from his days as a Toronto Raptor where he was falsely accused of faking an injury. By the end of the interview, Carter admitted, ""I think before that happens I'll probably retire anyway," so don't hold your breath in the hopes Vince Carter will someday hoist the NBA championship, but never say never.
