The third instalment of the John Wick franchise starring Keanu Reaves has become a point of interest to fans of genre cinema looking for a new lease on life. The production staff already hinted at Halle Berry's inclusion in the 3rd chapter, a role she has been ordered to keep mum, apart from the name of her character "Sofia" and a visual descriptor of her walking the halls with two menacing dogs.
In an interview with comingsoon.net, Keanu confirmed the name of the film as John Wick 3: Parabellum. As he suggests, the title refers a form of ancient warfare rendered possible in the highly stylized universe inhabited by John Wick and the many assassins that swear by the Continental Hotel and its rules. "Prepare for war. It’s part of that famous sentence, Si vis pacem, para bellum, which translates as, If you want peace, prepare for war," explained Keanu. If there were concerned John Wick were to backpedal or force his retirement from the guild, think again. Parabellum is a word used to describe World War I artillery fire, and countless other devices of "male aggression."
Reeves finally caved during his interview, admitting he (John Wick) and Halle Berry's character Sofia have a past and "get involved with The High Table, this kind of overlording entity." Read into it what you will. John Wick 3: Parabellum opens on May 17, 2019.
