waka
Waka Flocka- 50K (Remix) (Feat. T.I.)
For an artist who played a large role in establishing the trap sound, T.I. has moved away from the genre more and more since his debut. It's interesting to hear him beside Waka in place of Gucci, and he sounds great. Going for some flows that are a little more ambitious than either of the Ferrari Boyz would attempt, Tip breathes some fresh air into the track.
The-Dream- High Art (Feat. Jay-Z)
Looks like Dream wasn't lying when he said Jay owed him a favor or two after his infamous "swap meet" joke at the Grammys. Unlike the speech jab, Jay can't manage to outshine the Radio Killa on this track, who continues to be so comfortable in his element that he's become somewhat of an auteur of his craft.
Ace Hood- Bugatti (Remix) (Feat. Wiz Khalifa, T.I., Meek Mill, French Montana, 2 Chainz, Future, DJ Khaled & Birdman)
I've never 100% understood what rappers meant when they said "It's A Movie," when describing a song, but I always assumed it's a track that has a cinematic quality, possessing the grandiosity one would associate with that of a blockbuster film. Whether or not that's exactly what they were getting at, I'm pretty sure everone on this remix would agree that this one is most definitely "a movie". Wiz Khalifa definitely shows evidence of trying to steer clear of "trendy flows" he's been complaining about with an almost comically stuttered delivery, and the rest run those trendy flows into the ground. So "Bugatti" is sort of like a Michael Bay movie-- in the end, it doesn't leave you with much, but who doesn't like explosions?
Logic- Young Jedi (Feat. Dizzy Wright)
Logic and Dizzy Wright make for a pretty unstoppable lyrical pairing. Hearing them on the same cut reveals a similarity in their cadence not clearly evident until now. Their dense delivery makes the song good for multiple plays, not to mention the hazy production compliments their rhymes perfectly.
gucci
Gucci Mane- Darker (Feat. Chief Keef)
It take Gucci long to jump right back into the trap following his release from prison a couple weeks ago. In the wake of publicly dropping Waka from the team, GuWop has also wasted no time in recruiting a fitting replacement. It's hard to imagine Keef existing without Gucci (and even moreso Waka), and he fits pretty naturally into the Trap God's dark backdrops.
Jeremih- Ol' Skool Pontiac (Feat. Big Sean & Paul Wall)
Jeremih stays winning. The R&B singer released an incredibly solid collection of late night summer jams last year, and his recent output suggests another consistent release is on the horizon. This one has a distinctly Houston vibe, reminiscent of Drake's So Far Gone era, though only in feel, as Jeremih remains one of the few up and coming R&B singer's not directly channeling Drizzy's approach. Paul Wall bring his consistent Houston drawl out to play, and Big Sean synncs his bouncy double time flows up with the arpeggiated synth line.
