Roy Woods gets candid about his tour life, flexibility with his label and takes us back to his glory days in Brampton.

About four years ago I attended a Dudebox party in Toronto that was a venue filled with three rooms, each room boasting different genres of music. I made my way into the room that had DJ's playing more hip-hop and R&B tunes when all of a sudden the music cut to just a beat and a young kid jumped up on a barrel (or something like that) in the middle of the room and started rapping. The young kid was who we now know as Roy Woods and even at the time of his unsystematic performance, I think it's safe to say everyone in the room knew there was something special about him.

Fast forward four years later and Roy now has four projects out with his most recent tape being Say Less with favourites like "Something New" and "Take Time." Roy passed by our New York offices to talk about tour life, backstage life, growing up attending teen nights in Brampton and how his label (OVO) lets him express himself truthfully when it comes to music.

"The fact that I have a label that accepts me for me makes my job easier," he says in the video.
