There are two types of people. Those who recognize Xzibit as one of the West Coast's most slept on emcees, and those who know him as the dude from Pimp My Ride. Don't be the latter; it's unbecoming. For those who grew up on X to the Z's music, you might find yourself wondering what he's been up to these days. While he's remained absent from the rap game (short of a standout feature on Dr. Dre's Compton), X has been doing his thing on the TV series Empire.
When asked what the future has in store for X's music career, the rapper seems to get pensive. "I still believe there are Xzibit records that need to be made," he says, "but I'm feeling really accomplished by producing right now. I produced the James Savage film that's coming out, I produced the whole album as well. I'm working on this kid named Ben Shelton from Albuquerque New Mexico, he's about twenty three years old, rapping his muthafuckin' ass off." He does assure fans that some new X music is coming, but he's currently content with pulling strings behind the scenes.
Aftermath fans might appreciate the insight he gives into his recent relationship with Eminem (around the 17 minute mark). "It's always love with Marshall," says X, after claiming they most recently crossed paths at The Defiant Ones premiere. He also shouts out 50 Cent, who continues to thrive in myriad endeavors. Peep the whole interview below, and sound off; are ya'll looking for some new Xzibit?
