The soundtrack is as epic as the game.

Video game soundtracks are underrated and undervalued. To this day, I can hum the melodies for MarioZelda, or Halo. It takes a master composer to create an epic soundtrack that sets the tone for the video game. Some composers even choose to bask certain moments in silence before inserting a haunting or suspenseful melody that makes gamer's hair stand on edge. God of War is no different.

Although the new God of War isn't set to be released until April 20, PlayStation is blessing fans of the series with the soundtrack ahead of time. Composed by Bear McCreary, the God of War soundtrack is available on Spotify now. McCreary is an absolute genius who has composed music for the television shows Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Speaking with PlayStation BlogMcCreary revealed his motivation behind scoring the epic soundtrack from Kratos' new adventure.

"When Santa Monica Studio asked me to compose the score to the new God of War, I was awestruck, because I’m such a fan of the original games in the franchise," he begins. "As I collaborated with game director Cory Barlog, it became clear that this new game would require wholly new music that did not revisit the memorable scores of the original games, but instead ventured forth into new musical territory."

McCreary continues on to state, " I took my memories of that classic God of War soundtrack – the deep choirs, pounding drums, and shrieking brass – and reinvented them for a Norse age. I wrote new themes, and introduced to the music exotic instrumentation and languages from various Northern European folk traditions." Check out the God of War soundtrack on Spotify now.
