According to AllHipHop, Meek Mill now has the upper hand in a wrongful arrest case against the Philadelphia Police Department. Meek filed the suit in January, claiming he was illegally detained by officers Michael Vargas and Andre Boyer on October 31st (they were operating under Philly’s “Stop & Frisk” law at the time). The arrest caused him to lose income from a show as well as a deposit on a private jet, and he's suing for damages.
But it turns out Officer Boyer isn't exactly the most trustworthy member of the PPD. As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, a 2008 internal investigation revealed that he'd "repeatedly falsified official documents in the past." Also, last year, he told a Common Pleas Court judge that he "frisked everyone in every car, that he stopped, every time."
From the report: "It appears that Officer Boyer…was a victim of his own professional enthusiasm. In the interest of productivity (900 arrests in less than two years) he cut some clerical corners. However, there was no showing that any of his erroneous clerical entries were created for personal gain.”
Either way, Meek's lawyer Dennis Cogan is confident that this will help his client's case.
“[This] will have an effect on the case. We’re talking about institutional indifference.”
A hearing for is scheduled to take place on April 29. Stay tuned for details.
