While fall may be upon us, that hasn't stopped TDE's newest signee Reason from eulogizing the summer in style. Today, a vintage (though only familiar to the day ones) banger by the name of "Summer Up" has landed an official release. Over the course of the lengthy banger, Reason lays his ambition on the line, letting the masses know his reign is in the works. Taking to a quick, soulful instrumental, Reason delivers a solid dose of bars reminiscent of labelmate Jay Rock, with a rugged sense of honesty and street experience.
Rest assured, "Summer Up" finds Reason going in; he might not be the flashiest, but his genuine depictions of his environment and clever dose of references should appeal to any purist. Plus, TDE has an undeniable ear for talent, and we've come this far having trusted Top Dawg, Punch, and company. Reason continues to impress, even if this one is a relic from the vaults, repolished for contemporary audiences. Either way, we're eager to see where he goes from here.
Quotable Lyrics
I kinda got in the groove of it
Sliding through the streets like the n***as in Cool Runnings
I see a shot, word to JR you know that I'ma take it
Keep shooting till you know that I'ma make it
