As expected, Oklahoma's star freshman Trae Young has announced that he'll enter the NBA Draft. In an essay with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Young describes his journey from a skinny, 5'6 eighth grader to the nation's leading scorer and his decision to declare for the 2018 NBA Draft.
The 19-year old point guard tells Woj,
"I've been preparing most of my life to join the NBA, and that time has come for me now: After an unforgettable year at the University of Oklahoma, I will enter the June NBA draft and fully immerse myself in the pursuit of a pro basketball career."
"To me, I'll always be the skinny, 5-foot-6 eighth-grader on the YMCA court, trying to get grown men to choose me for pickup games. It wasn't always easy. And that's what drives me."
In his lone season with the Sooners, Young became the first player in Division I history to lead the nation in both points (27.4) and assists (8.7) per game.
The 6'2 point guard is expected to be a lottery pick at the 2018 NBA Draft on June 21, with most mock drafts listing him inside the Top-10, and some inside the Top-5.
