The Northampton emcee has emerged from the rubbish pile as I once said. slowthai's 2nd ever EP is an exciting proposition for those who've been following his career to date. As is often the case with UK artists that blur the lines of rap and grime, slowthai has gone about his business on a tightrope, one forward step at a time.
On RUNT, slowthai offers an unusually stark portal to everyday life. His lyrical approach often oscillates between traditional rapping, mild conversation, and wild outburst, all under one indescribable lyrical style that few compare to favorably, even on home soil. I guess the best way to describe his temperament is through the affective movement of a well placed mood swing.
Slowthai released a video for "Drug Dealer" ahead of its release. RUNT comes to us a few days before slowthai's Circus Tour kicks off domestically. The fourth track "Call My Own" is a particular favorite of mine; the piano playing such an incisive part in creating mood on the record.
