The WWE is reportedly searching for a new venue to host their annual SummerSlam PPV, which has been held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn ever since the 2015 event.
This year's SummerSlam is still scheduled to take place in BK on August 19th, but after that it appears the company will shift their attention toward larger outdoor stadiums. According to WrestleVotes, "it's a near certainty" that this will be the last SummerSlam at the Barclays Center for the foreseeable future.
From 1988, when SummerSlam was first introduced at Madison Square Garden in NYC, to 2008, WWE switched up the venue every year. The PPV was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles from 2009-2014. Since then, the Barclays Center has been the official home of SummerSlam as well as the NXT Takeover event that showcases the company's up and coming talent that isn't on the main roster yet.
The report from WrestleVotes notes that the WWE would be interested in looking at "vacation cities" as a possible destinations for the 2019 SummerSlam and beyond.
This year's SummerSlam event is still a mystery in regards to what matches fans can expect, but it is expected that Brock Lesnar will defend his WWE Universal Championship. His opponent, as well as other matches on the card, will likely begin to take form after the Money In The Bank PPV that is slated to take place on June 17th at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois.
