If you've never had the privilege of watching Kendrick Lamar live and in full effect, I regret to inform you that there is no substitute. However, the Compton-bred superstar's opening performance at this year's Grammys ceremony certainly takes the cake for the one televised instance in which his dynamism permeated airwaves.
In a politically-charged medley, Kung Fu Kenny kicked things off with a performance of his "XXX" as he recited his bars surrounded by masked dancers draped in military-like uniform before Bono and The Edge of U2 joined the rapper onstage.
Soon enough, his performance was "interrupted" by Dave Chappelle as the comedian declared, "I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America, is being an honest black man in America."
The spotlight would then shift back K.Dot as he unleashed lines from his verse on Rich The Kid's "New Freezer" banger as a woman played a large drum by his side. The performance would conclude with Dave Chappelle appearing onstage once more asking if this performance was "on cable" before Kendrick would unleash his "King's Dead" verse and his "DNA."
Soon enough, Kendrick would be presented with the first award of the broadcast as he and Rihanna won the Grammy for the category of Best Rap/Sung Performance for their "LoYALTY." collaboration.
