DeMarcus Cousins' season has ended early after suffering a torn left achilles.

Just days after being named as a starter to this year’s NBA All-star game, Pelicans Center DeMarcus Cousins has suffered a torn left achilles tendon Friday night, presumably ending his season early.

Pelicans' head coach Alvin Gentry said the severity of the injury would be determined when Cousins undergoes an MRI on Saturday, but “it doesn't look good.”

"We're scared about it," Gentry said. "I feel horrible for him. Everything that he's done, and what he's tried to do for us this year and what he's made himself and the improvements in all areas that he's made on and off the court, has just been great. I don't want that to happen to a guy that's trying to better himself.

Cousins ended up with a triple double Friday night in the Pelicans 115-113 win against the Rockets with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists.

A serious injury for Cousins would be a serious blow to the Pelicans’ playoff hopes. They are currently No. 6 in the Western Conference with a 27-21 record, but are only three games ahead of the No. 9 seed L.A. Clippers. New Orleans has won seven of their last eight games, including victories over the Blazers, Celtics, and Rockets, but that all might be irrelevant soon.

Check out how the injury happened & reports on it (below).
