Nipsey's debut album arrived on the heels of a new partnership with Atlantic Records under his All Money In imprint. Previously, the Los Angeles rhymer voiced how important it was that he released his debut album under these circumstances as it felt like the best and most organic way to do it.
"I seen a lot of artists be hot for a minute and then that's it and somebody else come in," he previously explained of the move. "To be relevant seven years later, probably more relevant than I was then—to go back into a space with a major label partner to finish what we promised them back then, which was an album; that was important to me. So I just feel like, it's really a victory of doing it our way."
