Eric Wood, Pro Bowl center of the Buffalo Bills, has announced that he has a neck injury which will force him to retire from the NFL.
Wood, who played nine seasons in the NFL, tweeted that he was initially diagnosed with the injury during his season-ending physical with the Bills and that team doctor, Andrew Cappuccino, as well as other physicians said he will not be cleared to play football again, regardless of whether he undergoes surgery or other treatment.
Wood will shed more light on the situation during a press conference at the Bills' training facility on Monday. His statement, which he shared through his official twitter account, reads, "I was diagnosed with a neck injury as part of my season-ending physical with the Bills. After consultation with Dr. Cappuccino and other physicians, I was informed that I was no longer cleared to play football, even with surgery or further treatment. I appreciate and thank everyone for their thoughts, concerns and prayers, and I will shed more light on the situation at a press conference on Monday at the team facility."
The 31-year old center was selected by Buffalo in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft and spent his entire career with the Bills, starting all 120 games.
