Jaden Smith is set to appear in a coming of age tale called Skate Kitchen. The film follows an ambitious skateboarder's journey of self-discovery as she strives to earn her place in a newfound skate crew, an element that adds to the contentious relationship she has with her mother. Somehow, Camille still finds time to get entangled in a romance amidst the chaos. Then again, the romance might be the source of the havoc.
Smith plays Camile's love interest, Devon. Watch an exclusive clip from the film in which the pair try to capture some magic on film. Camille performs some stunts on a rooftop as Devon, an aspiring photographer, shoots her tricks.
“If you watch this movie, you’re going to want to go and skate,” Smith says. “If you’re a guy or a girl, it doesn’t matter.”
Skate Kitchen is centered around female leads. The skateboard crew is portrayed by a real-life formation of the same name. Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Nina Moran, Ajani Russell, and Kabrina Adams are all part of this New York-based crew.
The film is directed by Crystal Moselle who has garnered much positive attention with past projects. Her preceding effort, The Wolfpack, won the 2015 Sundance U.S. Documentary Grand Prize.
