The phrase "Better Dayz" may instantly have you thinking about Tupac, whose posthumous 2002 album had that very title. It seems Reason, TDE's latest signee may have had the same thing in mind when he titled his new track, which carries a similar charismatic but message-driven style to Pac, not to mention, the G-Funk synths that enter towards the end. A soulful, and narrative-focused rapper, he seems like an ideal addition to the label's roster.
The song has been released officially through TDE today, but it's actually been kicking around since 2016, originally released on the rapper's mixtape The Free Album. It follows "The Soul," a song released in tandem with the announcement of Reason's signing with Top Dawg. Prior to that, he appeared on the Kendrick Lamar and Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith-curated Black Panther: The Album. The release date for his debut project with the label has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for further details.
Quotable Lyrics:
My older cousin been dabblin' in cocaine sniffin'
Love him to death but feeling like I can't hang with him
Went to Atlanta to hopefully get some change with him
Woke up the next morning, the n***a chain missing
Noel, pray for his safety but hardly miss him
Shame that when I make it we can't be Bacardi sippin'
'Cause the drugs got that n***a living with a foggy vision
And I'm tryna make a living with mics like Scottie Pippen
