When Suicide Squad hit theaters, fans and critics were torn about how they felt about the film. Whether or not you enjoyed the movie, Warner Bros. and DC Comics still made a mountain of cash off the flick. With a budget of $175 million, Suicide Squad brought in $746.8 million, ensuring that fans would see the villains and their universe explored more in the future. Now, it appears that Jared Letos Joker will be getting his own movie.
As reported by Variety, Jared Leto is set to executive produce and star in a standalone Joker film that will expand the Suicide Squad universe. The villain-centric movie is set in the same universe as Man of Steel and Justice League, so it would make sense for DC to include Batman or his allies in the film to some degree. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is also set to get her own film called Birds of Prey. It would be interesting to see both movies tie into each other, a thought that I'm sure DC has already played with.
DC also plans to release a Joker origin movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as the clown prince. According to Variety, Warner Bros. and DC want to create a separate movie universe for their characters that doesn't connect to the current DCEU that features Ben Affleck's Batman.
