Spice 1 doesn't seem too pleased with this new crop of rappers that have been gaining popularity in recent years.
The Bay Area rapper released a firey video on his Instagram over the weekend, calling out "bitch ass" rappers and boasting of his 10 million albums sold. The caption for the video includes hashtags for Lil Uzi Vert, Tekashi 6ix9ine, and Trippie Redd, as well as #fruitloops, #fruitcakes, and #fake rap.
Spice is quoted in the video as saying, "Fuck y’all fake ass rappin’ ass don’t know how to rap ass bitch ass faggot ass, niggas. I’ll beat the fuck out y’all niggas y’all come in my face with some shit. Don’t ever get me twisted nigga! Ten million copies nigga. Thug World Music crew, nigga. This Spice muthafuckin’ 1 nigga. What!?"
It's unclear what, if anything, prompted Spice to call out all of these new rappers, but clearly he's very passionate about the current state of rap music. Spice has been releasing albums since 1992, having dropped 13 solo albums and seven collaboration albums since his debut. His latest, Throne of Game, was released last year.
It seems as though this is yet another example of an old school rapper who's completely unwilling to accept the sensibilities of the new generation. It's doubtful that any meaningful beef will emerge from Spice's provocations, and Uzi, 6ix9ine, and Trippie Redd will likely continue to gain success as their popularity grows. While respecting rap's OG's is still important to the genre, the experimentation being undertaken by these new rappers can only help expand it.
