Anime and hip-hop culture married decades ago. The matrimony was ushered in by artists like the Wu-Tang Clan, who fused Asian art and culture into their music. Martial arts movies and anime often time go hand in hand, so the evolution of interest from Kung-Fu flicks to anime movies makes sense. In fact, most of the world's most popular anime focus on the character's strengths and abilities within a chosen form of martial arts.
New York lyricist Robb Banks has attained a wealth of anime knowledge throughout his life, and he sat down with HNHH to rate the bars of rappers who believe they know the genre. Banks begins by rating a Lupe line, giving it only a five, and next goes on to give a Childish Gambino lyric a 3. His grading scale is no joke. At one point, he even gives Logic a disqualifying no score because, "shit was kinda wack son." Banks continues on to give some higher scores to lyrics he believes articulates the performing rapper's depth and knowledge of anime.
