Some were surprised to see Wifisfuneral make the 2018 XXL Freshman List. However, anybody familiar with his music and his grind has been expecting his appearance on the list for years. If we think about the origins of country and hip-hop music respectively, they have always been somewhat intertwined. While the way that country and hip-hop artists compose themselves is different and the music they create sounds nothing alike, Billboard charts were originally exclusive to "urban" music and country music when they began. Thus, it should really come as no surprise that so many young rappers are looking to dabble in the genre.
While Wifisfuneral is almost certainly joking about his creation of a country album, artists like Tracy and Ugly God have both been adamant about wanting to record some twangy joints. Wifi shared the first taste of what we can expect from his country album, which he noted is "coming soon." Jokingly titling the track "Cinnamon Bun Pop Tarts & Sprite," the XXL Freshman rhymed about, well, Pop Tarts and Sprite. His affinity to the snacking brands is made clear as he puts on his best Keith Urban impression and sings, "I drink a little Sprite/ Eating on Pop Tart/ Then I fuck a bad b-tch."
This song will, unfortunately, probably never see the light of day. Wifi's clout has gone way up after his appearance on XXL's cover and, although his next album may not actually be country, fans are excited to see how he will follow up Ethernet.
