The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade corner back Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, according to multiple reports. In exchange for Peters, the Rams will reportedly send several draft picks to the Chiefs.
While the deal has already been agreed upon, it can not be made official until the start of a new league year on March 14th.
The exact terms of the deal have not yet been revealed but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport claims the Chiefs were originally hoping to land Rams defensive end Robert Quinn and a draft pick as part of the deal. However, the Rams managed to keep Quinn while landing Peters in the process.
In his three seasons in the NFL, Peters has already racked up 21 interceptions (regular season + playoffs) which is more than any other player during that span. According to NFL.com, the only player in the last 25 years to have more than 21 picks in his first three seasons is future NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed, who had 22.
The 25-year old corner, who grew up in Oakland, California, is due just $1.8 million in 2018, and the Rams will have the ability to pick up a team option in 2019, which is a bargain considering the caliber of player he is.
As a result of today's trade, NFL.com's Kevin Patra says the Rams will now let cornerback Trumaine Johnson walk in free agency.
