Oliver Luck leaves NCAA to join XFL.

Oliver Luck, the father of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, is reportedly leaving his job as an NCAA executive vice president to join Vince McMahon's XFL. According to reports, Luck has agreed to become the commissioner and CEO of the XFL, which is set to launch in less than two years.

During his time with the NCAA, Luck oversaw the organization's regulatory functions, including eligibility requirements and academic affairs, and the eligibility center. According to ESPN, he previously served as the president of NFL Europe and as the CEO of the Houston Sports Authority, which helped bring the Texans to Houston as an NFL expansion team in 2002.

He will now relocate from Indianapolis to the XFL's headquarters in Connecticut as he prepares for the league's launch in 2020.

“Oliver and I share the same vision and passion for reimagining the game of football,” McMahon said in a statement today. “His experience as both an athlete and executive will ensure the long-term success of the XFL.”

Luck added: “Football has always been a constant in my life and I’m excited about the unique opportunity to present America’s favorite sport to fans in a new way. The XFL will create first-class organizations that local cities across the country will be proud of.”

The XFL regular season will feature 10 games, followed by two playoff games and then the championship. There will be 8 teams (40-man rosters) at the start of the January 2020 season. The league plans to announce the eight cities, expected to be large and medium-sized markets, and team names in the next couple of months, with teams officially being formed by 2019.
