R.I.P. to those who passed in last night's fire.

A fire in a Bronx apartment killed atleast 12 last night where the New York Mayor calls it the "worst fire tragedy in at least a quarter of a century."

NBC News reports that the fire started just before 7 PM on Thursday night on the first floor of a five-story building located near the Bronx Zoo. Five of the 12 that passed were three girls ages one, two and seven, an unidentified little boy and a 63-year-old man.

"By the time I got downstairs, the fire had already escalated from one apartment to two, two to almost three. All I see is a bunch of kids on the fire escape, cold, with no jacket, no pajamas, no nothing," Rafael Gonzalez, who lives across the street, told the publication.

Firefighters rescued more than 12 residents, some with minor injuries including six firefighters and first responders. "They were they right away. And remember, with the freezing cold, tough conditions for our firefighters and emergency personnel, but they did a great, great job," the Mayor added.

Sending out prayers for any New Yorkers affected by this fire.
