Fabolous is gearing up for Loso's Way 2 this summer, as he recently announced it was dropping on June 18th. In the meantime, the rapper has been busy touring with Pusha T on "The Life Is So Exciting" tour, but mainly, the reason Fabolous doesn't overload us with music every single day, is because he's busy being a father. The rapper discussed this, as well as the upcoming album, and the current New York hip-hop scene, in an interview with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.
Th rapper was asked by Angela Yee if he felt like he should be much bigger than he is. Fabolous responded, "I think so. I don't really dickride as much, so I think that's why I don't get as much...I kinda just do what I do, I'm not beating down peoples' doors for credit, and I don't do like a Kanye rant when I don't get what I think I deserve. I just take it in stride and hopefully people recognize the music and I have fans." He added, "I appreciate what's given to me at the end of the day."
He continued to discuss the New York rap scene nowadays. "I think all those guys, they workin' man. I don't even think it's just a New York thing, it's just a generation of hip-hop, they like the next generation of hip-hop."
Loso explained how regional boundaries no longer dictate the sound of a rapper's music, "You appreciate each artist, but I don't think, even just besides Joey Bada$$ or a couple other guys, Action Bronson and those kinda guys, that's not just the typical New York sound-- they're more the typical, back-in-the-day hip-hop sound from New York. Some of the other guys, like French Montana and A$AP they're not fairly new, but you could see they're from New York but their music doesn't only reflect a boom-bap New York sound, and I think that's acceptable too. 'Cause in this generation, the regional guidelines are not the same anymore, it's not looked at as South music. People from Brooklyn can listen to Rick Ross all day and he's from Miami. When I was growing up, I didn't listen to Trick Daddy all day." Fabolous concluded, "Now the line is crossed, and people listen to music from all over."
With the rap game's current need to identify with some sort of crew or group, Fabolous seems like an odd-man out. Nonetheless, the rapper likes it that way, and although he often has fans coming at him and saying he should sign with this crew or that, the rapper tells The Breakfast Club there's a slim chance it'll happen.
"At this point too, it would have to really make sense," Fabolous said of signing with a crew like MMG or G.O.O.D. Music. "'Cause I've been doing this so long, I don't see why I would have to be signed up under anybody."
When asked if he himself would like to sign artists, he says that's the goal. "You know, I would like too. I gotta find talent that I think is really dope. I work with my team internally, right now I'm working with a couple guys that helped me with my album and stuff. I want that to be my next step as well, when you can sit back and let your artist shine," Loso said.
