Meek Mill called in from prison on Thursday to talk with NBC's Lester Holt.

Meek Mill is finally speaking out from behind bars about serving his controversial sentence. On Thursday, the Philly rapper hopped on the phone with NBC’s Lester Holt and talked about the 2-4 years Judge Genece Brinkley gave him. However Meek says the real problem started way back in 2008 when he was convicted on gun and drug charges.

When Lester asked Meek about his harsh sentencing, "Can you believe that 10 years in, 10 years on probation that you are still in the clutches of the criminal justice system because of this one arrest?" Meek replied he didn’t initially believe he would be on probation for so long, but he admitted that the length of probation was a sign that he could likely return to prison.

"It was always a thought in the back of my mind that 10 years of probation would bring me back to prison because a technical violation is police contact," he said.

Meek went on to clarify his situation and explain how the law was not in his favor. “You don’t have to be charged with a crime, you don’t have to be found guilty of a crime, you can be sentenced to what you were sentenced for, like what I was facing,” he told Holt.

The full interview is set to air on NBC’s Nightly News soon, but for now fans can check out the excerpt (below). #FreeMeek
