It's been a huge year for hip hop and to top it off, the biggest rapper in the game came out of his cave to drop off his ninth studio album. Eminem came through two weeks a go to drop off his highly anticipated album, Revival. While it's been a polarizing release with many fans and hip hop heads alike either loving it or despising it, the fact that Em decided to actually release an album was headline worthy itself. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 upon its release but it looks like Em hit another accomplishment on the way.
Eminem has now topped the Billboard Artist 100 chart this week due to the commercial success of his latest album. The album is currently sitting at number one on the charts but that's only a factor to his current position on the Artist 100. Billboard says the Artist 100 chart "measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity." The chart itself was created in July of 2014.
In addition to hitting the number one spot on the Artist 100, the commercial success of Revival made him the first artist to debut eight projects in a row at number one on the Billboard 200.
Aside from Em, only four other rappers hit the top of the Artist 100 chart this year including Jay-Z as the most recent, Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Future. Needless to say, Em is in good company.
