Bill Cosby has seen a bevy of accredited institutions rescind the plaudits they've once awarded the disgraced comedian in lieu of his guilty verdict. The former Cosby Show star will now have his Kennedy Center Honors and Mark Twain Prize for American Humor effectively revoked.
A representative for the Kennedy Center Honors states how "as a result of Mr. Cosby's recent criminal conviction," his actions have "overshadowed the very career accomplishments these distinctions from the Kennedy Center intend to recognize." The award was given to the former comedian back in 2009, before any sexual assault accusations were pinned against Cosby.
Meanwhile, the revocation of his Mark Twain Prize for American Humor comes after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' agreed to oust both Cosby and Roman Polanski from their membership. "The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity," explains an Academy spokesperson.
Cosby was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, Although each count bears a maximum penalty of 10 years jail time, CNN notes how he will most likely serve each sentence concurrently.
