These days, most people know Macaulay Culkin as the kid from Home Alone or Richie Rich, but what you might not be aware of is how the child actor's stint in Hollywood gave way to a tumultuous teenage and young adult life. Rumored heavy drug use led to him becoming somewhat of a recluse, but he made a rare public appearance on Marc Maron's WTF podcast to chat about a variety of topics, including his close relationship with the late Michael Jackson.
In conversation with the broadcaster/comedian, Culkin was seemingly transparent about his time spent with the King of Pop, recalling the first time they met. "He came backstage before the show," Culkin said, referring to the time he was part of the cast of The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center in New York. "He loved dance, he was a dance man [...] I remember he looked at me like, ‘I know you from somewhere. Oh, "Uncle Buck," yeah you’re funny.’ Then after Home Alone came out, he reached out to me and my family."
The story continued, with the actor insisting that their bond was a legitimate and non-creepy one. "We were friends. We were actually best friends for a stretch of time while I was growing up. It was a legitimate friendship," added Culkin. "He enjoyed my youthfulness. He liked being a kid. He liked being a kid with me. He liked being around kids, and it never struck me as odd."
