DJ Muggs and MF Doom are cooking up something.

DJ Muggs may be a member of the legendary Cypress Hill, but these days, people are sleeping on the producer. In October, Muggs teamed up with the equally underrated Meyhem Lauren for Gems From The Equinox, which features raw East Coast lyricism from front to back. If you find yourself pondering where all the "real hip-hop" has gone, look no further. As far as production style, Muggs favors samples of live instrumentation, favoring overdriven guitars straight out of sixties analog mixes and heavy-ass drums. In other words, he's only interested in that classic, gritty sound.

Perhaps that's why he found a kindred spirit in the irreplaceable MF Doom. The masked villain has also favored a similarly grainy aesthetic, and his unique brand of referential lyricism and laid back flow is well-suited to Mugg's sonics. If you skim through Gems From The Equinox, it wouldn't be far-fetched to picture Doom spinning tales over any of those beats. While it's not clear when the pair will be releasing whatever it is they're teasing, it seems likely that we'll be getting at least a song out of them. If we're lucky, perhaps even more.

Check out the teaser below, courtesy of Muggs' Instagram, and stay tuned for more news on that front. In other, more tragic news, Doom recently lost his fourteen year old son Malachi Ezekiel Dumile. Hopefully Doom is feeling okay, and our condolences go out to the talented artist.
