Today, the Silk City collective, known to the layman as the brainchild of Diplo and Mark Ronson, has hit Zane Lowe with a new track. This time, they've reached into the address book and brought Desiigner and GoldLink to the fold.
"It was an old beat that I was working on and it was actually a hip hop beat. And I recorded Desiigner on it like really scratch demo like almost a year ago," reveals Diplo. "Mark just loved the idea of like the fusion of house and hip hop. It's kind of like a hip hop record." Mark Ronson expands on the genre-bending prognosis. I kinda feel like everything we try to work on like something that can be on bbq or like a party," he explains. "You know it's all kind of like fun music for like house parties or stuff."
To be honest, genre-blending house and hip-hop can often lead to a confusing aural smorgasbord, which is not always ideal for listeners. Yet Mark Ronson and Diplo are no strangers to the process, and have been finessing their craft for a minute. Whether or not "Loud" fully delivers is up to the masses, but it's certainly interesting to hear Desiigner and GoldLink connect on wax. It's not exactly one for those seeking a return to "Panda" form, but Desiigner's voice is undeniably well-suited for autotune crooning.
