Donald Trump has erected a public platform that routinely denounces all forms of media that have apparently clouted the feeble minds of the American public. However, it seems kind of ironic then that the current POTUS has gone on record, probably unbeknownst to him, bragging about some fibs he told Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a recent appearance in St. Louis.
The Washington Post reports how Trump's assertions of trade deficit with Canada are not backed by a concrete set of numbers to prove this theory. Audio transcripts of the video reveals Trump proclaiming how "Trudeau came to see me. He’s a good guy, Justin. He said, 'No, no, we have no trade deficit with you, we have none. Donald, please." He refers to the Canadian politician as "nice guy, good-looking guy" who argues "'Donald, we have no trade deficit.' He’s very proud because everybody else, you know, we’re getting killed."
Trump's confusing rant continues to retort Trudeau's claims of a healthy trade economy between the two nations. "I didn’t even know. ... I had no idea. I just said, 'You’re wrong.' You know why? Because we’re so stupid. ... And I thought they were smart. I said, 'You’re wrong, Justin.' He said, 'Nope, we have no trade deficit.' I said, 'Well, in that case, I feel differently,' I said, 'but I don’t believe it.' I sent one of our guys out, his guy, my guy, they went out, I said, 'Check, because I can’t believe it.'
However, after reviewing the facts, Trump admits "well, sir, you’re actually right. We have no deficit, but that doesn’t include energy and timber. … And when you do, we lose $17 billion a year.' It’s incredible."
The Office of the United States Trade Representative has revealed that America experienced a $12.1 billion trade surplus with Canada in 2016; how Trump came to his conclusions of a troublesome deficit is still unknown.
