In a year filled with sequels, spinoffs, and remakes, Widows stands tall. Directed by Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave), Widows focuses on a group of women whose husbands are killed while performing a heist. The husbands, led by Liam Neeson and Jon Bernthal, leave their wives distraught and in debt after they are killed by law enforcement. Viola Davis, who plays the wife of Neeson, gathers the mourning ladies together to complete what their husbands started.
In a new trailer for the film, it looks like Davis has her work cut out for her. The three other widows, played by Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo, are being closely watched by Daniel Kaluuya, Brian Tyree Henry, and Colin Farrell. The star-studded cast also includes Robert Duvall and Lukas Haas. Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) helped pen the script, so expect this heist thriller to be filled with twists and turns.
“No one thinks we have the balls to pull this off," explains Davis as she convinces the widows to follow in their husband's footsteps. Based on a book of the same name by Lynda La Plante, expect this film to be another McQueen classic. Widows debuts in theaters on November 16.
