King James may have found joy in the new all-star game format which allowed him to handpick his mates, but he isn't ready to sign off on a new-look playoff seeding system.
He clarified his stance after practice during a media presser:
"It just changes the landscape of the history of the game if you start messing with seedings and playoffs...It's cool to mess around with the All-Star Game—and we proved that you could do that—but let's not get too crazy about the playoffs. You have Eastern Conference, you have Western Conference."
The NBA is exploring the idea of doing away with 8 playoff spots for each conference, and instead implementing a system where the top 16 teams league-wide qualify directly for the postseason. These reforms would be a nightmare to implement because they would force the league to reevaluate other aspects of the game, including scheduling.
