In the days following the 2018 Dunk Contest, some rumors have come out regarding the dunks we didn't get to see by the two players who were eliminated before the final round.
Footage of Victor Oladipo's unseen dunk surfaced earlier today, and on the latest episode of the Black Opinions Matter podcast, ESPN's Amin Elhassan provided some details about what Mavericks rookie Dennis Smith Jr. had planned if he would've advanced in the competition.
According to Elhassan, DSJ was prepared to catch an oop from fellow Fayetteville, North Carolina native J. Cole in the finals. Furthermore, the plan called for Cole to throw down a dunk himself.
He says (H/T Slam):
"If Dennis would have made it to the final round, [J. Cole] was going to throw him the alley-oop. The plan was, Cole would throw the ‘oop, Dennis would dunk it, and Cole would catch the ball and then he’d dunk it too. That was going to be the ill, craziest dunk, use of a prop or a person ever, but we never got to [see] because [Dennis] was holding out until the final round and didn’t want to bring it out in the first round."
With the NBA All-Star festivities heading to North Carolina in 2019, there's always a chance the NC natives link up in next year's Dunk contest.
