In a world where albums can go platinum before they even drop, it would seem that the value of a platinum album has diminished significantly. However, earning a platinum plaque for a single appears to be a much more arduous process, as only a few songs have been granted platinum certification so far this year, two of them belonging to Rich The Kid.
Now Lil Xan can add his name to the list of rappers with platinum singles this year, as his hit song, "Betrayed" has reached platinum certification. The song, a woozy warning about the dangers of prescription drug use, has racked up hundreds of millions of hits on YouTube, and was the gateway that introduced many people to Xan's music. His debut album, Total Xanarchy only sold 28,000 units its first week, but "Betrayed" remains a strong seller.
Lil Xan celebrated his success in an Instagram over the weekend, thanking his fans for supporting him. He writes, "Just checked my texts and saw this 💔 life is amazing I love you guys so much and want to thank you for my first platinum record 💔 only the beginning baby 💔." This was, of course, before he had a mental breakdown and keyed his Mercedes G-Wagon.
Maybe the life of a platinum artist has gotten to his head, but hopefully he centers himself so he can get back to work making his next platinum hit. Regardless, congratulations to Xan for his accomplishment. Check out the post of Xan breaking the news below.
