When it was announced, 88rising's Head In The Clouds instantly became something to look out for this summer. The crew has been buzzing from their work as solo artists with Rich Brian and Joji getting a lot of the shine but their work as a collective never got a serious chance to make its way into the mainstream. Head In The Clouds sets to change all of that, shining a spotlight on some of the lesser-known characters from the bunch. With Higher Brothers, Niki, and AUGUST 08 all prominently featured on the album, collaborations with some of the biggest rappers in the world also came through.
Case in point, "Beam" by Rich Brian and Playboi Carti is one of the early standouts from the project. Based on star power alone, this is one of the tracks that people were bound to gravitate towards as Carti's Die Lit remains one of the most intriguing full-lengths of the entire year. Produced by Murda Beatz and Southside, "Beam" features one of the coolest beats on the entire album, matching Brian and Carti's energy perfectly as they practice their clever wordplay throughout.
With such an impressive lineup on this track alone, does it live up to the star power or do you think they could have done better?
Quotable Lyrics:
I just hit it once, she became a fiend
Gri-grindin' all up on me, juices on my jeans
Laser beamin' galaxy
That b-tch flat, B.O.B
I'm on Neptunes, Pusha T
We got Murda on the beat
