When you hear Method's chorus on Ski Mask's new single "Nationwide," it's hard not to picture a young adult with rabid acne trapped in a cold sweat. Before we confuse him for the magisterial Method Man of Wu-Tang fame, let's establish that I've heard of this artist sharing his namesake. Method should be less bashful when he calls dibs on "some weed, and the sluts on me," but alas he isn't.
"Nationwide" samples "Drop" by Timbaland & Magoo, a loop instantly recognizable due to its association with a particular battle scene in You Got Served. And yes, Ski Mask the Slump God can make a career of sampling Timbaland production, but not at the expense of dragging inbred talent into the mix.
Then again, Ski Mask's flair for the dramatic is what sets him apart from his peers. References to American Idol and Kim Possible have me thinking Ski Mask spends a lot of time in his hotel room, and not on the promenade.
How do you feel about "Nationwide?"
