Hundreds of students attending Park Vista high school in Florida have banded together to protest gun violence after last week's deadly attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which effectively left 17 dead. Teenagers concerned with the unending stream of murders have been walking out of class to show their solidarity with efforts to beef up gun control laws.
Earlier today, Park Vista students gathered in their courtyard to engage in a moment of silence, as well as discuss stricter gun control laws, and the need for mental health awareness to help prevent further acts of violent terror.
Angelina Goodlow, a senior at Park Vista high school spoke about the walkout, revealing how "we were holding hands out in the courtyard, even if we didn't know each other and I saw people crying."
This miniature efforts have manifested in a country-wide effort to end gun violence in America. Known as "National School Walkout," which will take place on March 14th, and is organized by the Women's March's Youth EMPOWER group. The event encourages students, faculty, parents, administrators and allies to band together and walk out for 17 minutes, one for every human life taken during the Stoneman Douglas massacre.
Other events include March For Our Lives on March 24 and National High School Walk Out on April 20.
