Black Panther: The Album was well received much like the film. The Kendrick Lamar and TDE curated soundtrack built a lot of hype around the project and made the project into one of the tightest soundtracks in a while. The project ended up debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 last week and from the looks of it, there's a high chance that it'll maintain that position in the coming week.
Billboard reports that Black Panther: The Album is expected to stay at the number one position on the Billboard album charts for a second week in a row. Their industry forecasters predict that the album will sell an additional 130K units this week to help it maintain that number one spot. Upon the first week of its release, the album boasted 154K units by the end of February 15th.
The release of Black Panther will definitely help it stay at number one. The film made a massive debut in the box office over the weekend. After earning $242 Million in North American box offices over its four day opening, Black Panther became the second highest grossing in history. The first being Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $288M within its first four day opening.
There's no doubt that Kendrick Lamar and TDE excellently executed the soundtrack. Kendrick Lamar took to Instagram after the project's release to thank all of the artists who helped "execute a sound." Hopefully, we see Kendrick and his team do more work in film in the future.
