Seemingly every movie studio is trying to build their own version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Disney has created, it's not as easy as it sounds. Warner Brothers has had their share of success and failures with their DC Universe films, and now Sony is giving it a go with a Spider-man extended universe.
One of the films that was planned by Sony was Silver and Black, a film based on the team up of mercenary Silver Sable and burglar Black Cat, both of whom have been occasional allies of Spider-man, and neither of whom have any super powers.
According to Variety, the film is set to be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, who has already had some experience directing super heroes in Marvel's upcoming Cloak & Dagger TV series, and was supposed to be released on February 8th, 2019. Now it seems, that the film will have to find a new release date, as Sony has pulled it from their current release schedule.
While both characters exist within the Spider-man universe, with Black Cat having made an appearance in The Amazing Spider-man 2, the film will not be a crossover with the web-slinging hero, especially since the Andrew Garfield version of the character no longer exists.
Silver and Black was set to be the next franchise film after the upcoming Venom, starring Tom Hardy. That film will be released on October 5th, 2018. For now, it appears that the film will be shelved while Sony figures out exactly what to do with it.
