Lamar Davenport narrowly escaped a murder conviction.

Nearly three years ago, Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter E'Dena Hines was killed outside of her New York City apartment by her boyfriend Lamar Davenport. At the time, Freeman had released a statement on the death of his step-granddaughter, saying, "Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace." At the time of her passing, Hines was 33 years old and there has finally been a resolution in the case surrounding her untimely death.

Lamar Davenport has been convicted of manslaughter and is facing up to 25 years in prison. According to the TMZ report, Davenport narrowly escaped a guilty conviction for second-degree murder because of his lawyers during a court date today. The man was allegedly high on PCP when he stabbed Hines 25 times, resulting in her death in August 2015, screaming, "I love you. I always loved you. God would have wanted this." The conviction was downplayed as manslaughter since, according to the judge in the case, Davenport was not acting "with malice," he was simply messed up from the drugs.

While Davenport faces 25 years for his crimes, the exact time he will spend behind bars will need to be determined during a future sentencing.
