Rapsody stops by "Everyday Struggle" to chat about a wide range of topics.

For those who are unaware, Rapsody is quietly becoming one of the most respected names in hip-hop. The emcee recently released her critically-acclaimed album Laila's Wisdom, a record that also earned her a Grammy nomination. As such, Rapsody is primed to break out in a major way, so it's only fitting that she was one of the guests booked this week on Everyday Struggle, a web series that continues to try and ease the pain it has caused its fan base after the sudden departure of Joe Budden.

Near the beginning of the interview, Rapsody mentions that she was totally flattered by the Cardi B shout-out that she received on Twitter, as well as some love from Remy Ma during one of her promotional radio spots. She used this as evidence to support her point that female rappers, while often pitted against each other by the news media and even the hip-hop community itself, are starting to find their foothold in the culture again after a long period where only one or two names were super notable.

"It's this idea [that] only one can exist at a time," Rapsody explained. "I know when I came up, [we] had Queen [Latifah] and Lauryn [Hill] and Salt N Pepa and it was a beautiful thing. Somewhere around like the 2000's, post-Lauryn, you had one." It's not an unfair assessment, given that two names, Missy Elliott and Nicki Minaj, were the ones who primarily dominated that genre role in rap music. However, when asked about who her competition, Rapsody is including everyone, not just women, in that category. "I'm aiming for the top of the top," she said.
